Temporary relief for a primary caregiver

A trained volunteer or paraprofessional stays with your loved one and takes over your caregiving role, whether for several hours or several days. These brief reprieves from a caregiving situation are healthy for the caregiver and also for the care recipient as a change of daily routine for both.

Respite care may include the following services in accordance with instructions from the regular caregiver:

  • Assistance with toileting
  • Assistance with dressing
  • Assistance with meal preparation
  • Reminder to take medication if necessary
  • Reading to client
  • Calling for help and assistance in any unusual situation by contacting the regular caregiver, the client’s physician, or an appropriate agency.
